- Ultimate test of manufacturing and driving skill
FOMBI is the inter-college engineering design competition that challenges students to research, design, and fabricate an off-road buggy. The design challenge aims to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related tasks. To give teams the maximum design flexibility and the freedom to express their creativity and imagination. For the purpose of the FOMBI, teams are to assume that they work for a design firm that is designing, fabricating, testing, and demonstrating an off-road buggy for the non-professional, weekend, competition market.
The car should have very high performance in terms of acceleration, braking, and handling and be sufficiently durable to successfully complete all the events described in the FOMBI.
Design Objective
To give teams the maximum design flexibility and the freedom to express their creativity and imagination. The challenge to teams is to develop an all-terrain vehicle that can successfully compete in all the events described in this rule book.
- For the purpose of the FOMBI, teams are to assume that they work for a design firm that is designing, fabricating, testing, and demonstrating a prototype Dune Buggy for the non-professional, weekend, competition market. The vehicle should have very high performance in terms of acceleration, braking, handling, and suspension and be sufficiently durable to successfully complete all the static and dynamic events described in this rule book.
- Additional design factors to be considered include aesthetics, cost, ergonomics, serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Once the manufacturing of the prototype has been completed and tested, your design firm will attempt to "sell" the design to a "corporation" that is considering the production of a competition vehicle [Business Plan for the event]. The challenge to the design team is to develop a prototype vehicle that best meets the FOMBI 2023 design goals and that can be profitably marketed.
- Each design is to be judged and evaluated against other competing designs to determine the best overall vehicle.
